A World Heritage Site always has outstanding natural and cultural value and Brimstone Hill Fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated on the island of St Kitts and Nevis and promises all tourists an amazing experience. A Fortress Full of Amazing Details; This fantastic fort is also a popular place for weddings as it gives spectacular views of the sea as well as Nevis. Brimstone Hill itself is made up of volcanic rock and covered with scrub, some bare patches, trees and dense undergrowth. Work on the fortress started in the 1690s with the British and French trying to take control of the island and today is set on 38 acres that’s protected by massive 7 foot walls made from volcanic brimstone. This ancient military architecture fortress was abandoned in 1851 and after much deterioration in 1965 the site became a national park and the entire fortress was restored to its former glory. Today it is a good idea to take an organized tour of the fortress which will include looking at the fortresses ammunition stores, the Prince of Wales Bastion, the hospital and the artillery officer's quarters. The enormity of Fort St. George and the Brimstone Hill complex is a truly imposing man-made spectacle and a hugely popular tourist attraction on the island of St Kitts.
