Elche for a great day out from Alicante Villas

When you are staying in ALICANTE VILLAS why not take a day out and visit Elche? This town started life as an Iberian settlement and was a Phoenician commerce centre from around 1,000 BC. The Romans knew the city as Iulia Illice Augusta; latterly the Romans were displaced by the Germanic Visigoths during the 4th century AD. After that it grew to become a Moorish domain until recaptured by James I of Aragon, also called Jaime El Conquistador, in 1265. The city has blossomed since that time.
